100 Days of Happiness Day 18
Sometimes when I am picking Peyton up from school or tae kwon do,or wherever and I'm not really paying attention, I'll catch her out of the corner of my eye... and for a split second it doesn't process that she's my child. She looks so long and old. My child isn't that big. And then I realize, "sweet lord -- that's Peyton!" She is lengthening and growing before my eyes. Then I am always filled with parental pride when she smiles and runs, still like her little girl self, to the car.
That's exactly what happened today when I picked her up from play practice. She looked so self aware, as most pre-teens do, standing by the doors of school. But when she saw me, she lit up and I could see as I often do, her small self. The little girl I remember running through the park with blond wispy tendrils trailing behind her...
She's working hard right now -- in school, on the swim team, at tae kwon do, and orchestra. I'm so proud of her. She makes me happy.
