100 Days of Happiness Day 16

At the end of a fantastic Seattle summer (they really are the best in the world) I find that I'm actually looking forward to the fall. The wind, the chill in the air, the colors that deepen. I welcome it. And winter, too.
But sometime in mid-February, I'm ready for it to be over. Like, really ready. I feel hungry for warmth. For color, for light and long summer days.
And then, right when I think I can't bear it, little peeks of color arrive. Some yellow, some purple, tiny buds on the trees. It's a promise that the darkness will soon be over. Because we are slowly tilting tilting tilting back toward the sun. It will be warm again, and all the trees will hang heavy with their bright green leaves. These little flowers are coming up in the front yard... Each day I check on their progress. And even though the skies are gray and the rain continues to pour, these flowers make me happy. Spring is on its way.
